“Things Change”: Allyson Felix Opens Up on Her Potential Retirement After Tokyo Olympics 2021

Allyson Felix is going to her fifth Olympics at Tokyo Olympics 2021. With that, her age is obviously catching her as she turns 36 later in the year. Being in the late 30s, Felix ought to have thoughts about retirement despite being on course to adding a few more medals to her tally in Tokyo.
In a recent interview, Allyson Felix spoke about the thought of retiring after the Olympic Games. The American sprinter frankly called it challenging and hard to retire soon as her career has spanned over 20 years.

“It is the life that you have known and a lifestyle. For my case, I have been doing this since I was a teenager and I think the real question is, ‘Do you still have the passion and the love for it?’ Does it actually still drive you every single day that you wake up? And for me that is the case and that is why I have been doing it for so long,” Felix said.

Felix currently is having no problems juggling being a mother and a sprinter. She is loving what she is doing and is doing it with no fuss. Felix came second in 400m at the recently concluded trials. Her two-year-old daughter Camryn Grace was also seen as many were adored by her presence.
“Being capable to do it, and get to wake up to do what I absolutely love. But as things change it will be exciting to see what the next chapter will be. Like you might have a bad training day and then you get home and there is this little person who absolutely doesn’t care, still needs to take a bath, still needs to be fed. So it is a cool dynamic.”

Felix had earlier indicated that Tokyo Olympics would be her last Olympics. She intends to retire before the 2024 Paris Games, however, when she might do it is unclear. Maybe Felix will have her last hurray at the 2022 World Athletics Championships that is said to take place in the USA.
