“Too Clutch”: Nick Kyrgios Hails Andy Murray’s Outstanding Record

Having been out of action since this year’s Australian Open, Nick Kyrgios is living in a self-imposed exile. Due to safety concerns because of the coronavirus pandemic, Kyrgios decided not to compete in any tournaments post the tours’ resumption. During the 9 month-long hiatus, Kyrgios shared his struggles with depression and revealed falling out of love with tennis.
However, the hot-headed Australian has been training hard and the long break has allowed him to rest his game completely. Recently, Kyrgios shared a post on his Instagram story about the top-10 players having the best tie-break winning percentage from 2011 to 2020.

As per the statistic, Novak Djokovic topped the list, with an astonishing 65.38% winning percentage in tiebreakers over the last ten years. However, two-time Olympic gold medallist, Andy Murray, finished at the second spot with a whopping 64.62% winning percentage in tiebreakers in the same period.
Applauding Murray’s high winning percentage in tiebreakers, Kyrgios captioned his story, “@andymurray you are too clutch”. Despite struggling through lingering hip injuries over the last four years, Murray is still trying to find full fitness and regain his 2016 form.

The Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, featured at the third spot on the list while his arch-rival Rafael Nadal bagged the sixth spot with a 60.48% winning percentage in tiebreakers in the last ten years. After claiming Roland Garros for the record 13th time this year, Nadal equaling Federer’s record of winning 20 Grand Slam titles.

Interestingly, Kyrgios found himself at the ninth spot, having a 58.95% winning percentage in tiebreakers. The 25-year-old will now compete at 2021 Australian Open and has started preparations in full swing. Kyrgios has never gone past the quarterfinal stage at Melbourne, a feat he will look to improve upon.
