Khamzat Chimaev hit headlines with the news that he has two fights lined up for him in quick succession. The Swedish fighter competed twice on Fight Island too, but this came due to ‘Borz’ volunteering to be a short-notice replacement. Given the fighter’s uncanny ability to fight in multiple weight classes, does he have plans to simultaneously rise in two divisions?
Chimaev elaborated on the question and stated that who he fought depended on his coach. Ahead of his US Debut, the fighter said, “Hey man, it doesn’t matter. I said yesterday if my coach say to me go with Brock Lesnar I’m gonna go with him. Doesn’t matter which way outside…No brother, you gonna go with this guy.”

Challenging Brock Lesnar would be a bridge too far, considering the difference in weight classes. Nevertheless, it showcased his deep desire to focus only and fighting and not on opponent selection.
Khamzat Chimaev is set to face his toughest challenge yet
‘Borz’ is on a tear in the UFC and switches to attack mode from the moment the fight begins. He smothers his opponent with a high volume of attack, leaving them helpless.
However, at the UFC Apex for UFC Fight Night: Covington vs Woodley, he will face a veteran fighter who boasts of a high finish rate himself. Gerald Meerschaert has 29 finishes in 31 wins and is on a mission. He is aiming to ensure that Chimaev cannot make it to the octagon for his fight against Demian Maia at the Flash Forum.
