After retiring from the UFC back in 2014, Chael Sonnen has been seen actively discussing and sharing his opinion on fights and fighters on his YouTube channel. A veteran of the sport, Sonne’s words are not to be taken lightly, considering the fact that he knows the world of MMA like the back of his hand.
His recent topic of discussion was mostly him expressing his discontent with a great cross-sport match being tanked. Former UFC HW champ Francis Ngannou and professional boxer Deontay Wilder were supposed to rumble. However, the match got tanked as didn’t receive enough traction for the bout to be prepared for, in full swing.

Exasperated and confused – UFC legend Chael Sonnen disappointed that Ngannou vs. Wilder didn’t happen
Everyone loves a good fight. Now, if two of the biggest names from two different combat disciplines agree to face each other, stadiums are bound to sell out. However, that was not the case with Deontay Wilder vs. Francis Ngannou and former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen is disappointed with it being put off indefinitely.

He took to his YouTube channel to voice his discontent. “I’ve been surprised… at how little traction Deontay Wilder going after Francis on live television, brought. I loved it! I loved everybody in that shot. I love George Greenberg for setting it up and Deontay Wilder stole the show. He stole the show… and no one talked about it.” said Sonnen, taking his time to find the right words to say.
“Francis didn’t talk about it, Peter [inaudible] didn’t come and talk about it. They did not come out and hit – they just did… it died. Why? And I’m wondering that. But I… but I asked myself those questions.“, he continued, clearly disappointed with how things unfolded between the promotions and the fighters.
Chael Sonnen then went on to talk about how Conor McGregor’s comment about Floyd Mayweather’s hands being smaller than his could be the key difference maker – thereby handing him his sweet victory over the boxer, piqued the former UFC fighter’s interest. Needless to say, Conor McGregor faced major backlash for that statement.
“It was really interesting that’s all I’m saying. It was really interesting so I’ll go back and I’ll see how did that turn into a quarter billion dollars in business and this, can’t get a headline?“, said Sonnen, more disappointed and perplexed than ever.
