Khamzat Chimaev and Nate Diaz will compete in one of the biggest clashes of the year at UFC 279. However, the Chechen-born was ready to dust off the rust before the fight as he nearly had an altercation with middleweight UFC athlete Paulo Costa.

Former Strikeforce middleweight champion and ex-UFC welterweight title contender Jake Shields talked about the incident soon after. Shields was helping the Brazilian with his training at UFC PI.

In an interview with MMA journalist, The Schmo, Jake Shields said, “I didn’t get in a scuffle but it was close to it. We are working out with Paulo… and out of nowhere, Khamzat runs over and starts talking sh** to Paulo. He has like 10 dudes with him. So, let’s fight right now.”

“Paulo hops up and runs out to him… Paulo, like I don’t know him that well but I’m like, I ain’t gonna let you jump so I got your back. So, we run over, start talking c*ap and then Khamzat keeps acting like let’s fight now, let’s fight now but as he’s doing that he’s walking away. So, I’m like you’re saying you want to fight and you are walking away. That’s kind of ironic.”
