Joe Rogan is often vocal about his opinions and thoughts on a variety of issues. This has led him to come in the firing lines of ‘cancel culture’. However, stand-up legend Russell Peters came in to defend Rogan’s image. With that in mind, let us take a look at a few instances when the JRE host spoke out about the rising ‘cancel culture’.

According to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, cancel culture refers to the mass withdrawal of support from influential figures or even celebrities due to certain acts or words that are not socially acceptable in the modern era. Let us see what Joe Rogan had to say about that.

The 56-year-old appeared in an interview in 2022 where he explained what ‘cancel culture’ is all about. He claimed that the culture involves silencing people who like to express themselves. However, sometimes these expressions can end up getting people upset, and that’s where this culture takes effect.

“It’s like, you can get someone fired! Like, if you decide that you’re gonna pile on to someone because you don’t like what they said or what they did, you can get them fired,” said Joe Rogan. He also mentioned that it is a novel thing in today’s times, and that it is a very forceful thing to do.

“That’s a new thing in history. In some ways, it’s like, it’s forcing people to get their sh*t together,” Rogan added. He also mentioned how this new culture can affect people in a negative way. In another interview, Joe Rogan mentioned that popular people who succumb to the things that people say about them online often affect them in a very bad way.

When you get popular enough that you could spend your whole day wondering about other people’s opinion… You’ll literally go insane,” said the 56-year-old. Nevertheless, Joe Rogan suggested that people should refrain from letting these statements from people on social media get to their heads. Instead, they should attempt to make better use of the time they have.

“It’s not good for you. It’s like, you don’t have any time for that. Your time is precious,” Joe Rogan further stated. Let us take a look at a few instances when he spoke out about certain incidents of ‘cancel culture’.

Times when Joe Rogan addressed instances of cancel culture

There have been several times when Joe Rogan spoke out about some serious instances of people getting canceled or boycotted. One of the most recent events was the Bud Light controversy. When transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney promoted Bud Light on social media, conservative people called for the Anheuser-Busch brand to be boycotted. But Joe Rogan did not jump on the boycott train. During an episode of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’, he had Zach Bryan as a guest, and he and his guest opened up a couple of cans of Bud Light.

“And we’re drinking Bud Lights, ladies and gentlemen. Sorry. There’s nothing wrong with it,” said Joe Rogan. He added that such boycotts are as silly as they can be since it was an advertising blunder due to one person’s decision. Rogan added, “People are so silly. We were just talking about silliness. One person made a really stupid decision, and now everybody’s decided that Bud Light is the enemy.”

The JRE host also added that such boycotts are a recurring theme in the United States. Such boycotts are results of people disliking something so much that they try to get rid of it altogether. “But that’s, like, this thing that people do in America, where they just decide, ‘Now I hate these people. These people are the enemy,'” Joe Rogan added.

Another instance when Joe Rogan raised his concern over ‘cancel culture’ was when one of fellow comedian Theo Von‘s episodes got removed from YouTube. The episode featured Roseanne Barr, who made a point about censorship and some of the media’s outlandish claims. Rogan voiced his opinion about it with his JRE guest at that time, Thomas Segura. He said, “Did you see Roseanne’s podcast with Theo got pulled from YouTube for hate speech?… It’s so crazy [that] I can’t even understand how this could possibly be real.”

YouTube removed the whole episode from Theo Von’s channel and banned him for a week, resulting in a strike on his account. Subsequently, Joe Rogan mentioned that he was not a fan of such kind of censorships. “[They] pulled the whole episode… I just don’t understand how someone can think that this kind of censorship is okay,” he added.

With ‘cancel culture’ in full effect, the 56-year-old decided to open up a comedy club, Comedy Mothership. There, he added all the previously canceled comedians and shouted to the crowd on his first show: “You can’t fire me from my own club, b*tch!” He then also told Theo Von about what led to him creating a comedy club.

Joe Rogan never wanted to open a comedy club, but he felt compelled to do it. He said, “I never wanted to own a comedy club, and I always felt like you just had to be nice to comedy club owners because you never want to be one of those people.” Meanwhile, even Rogan cannot escape cancel culture due to some of the things he discusses on his podcast. However, a fellow comedian came to his aid.

Russell Peters comes in aid of the JRE host

Joe Rogan has discussed a multitude of sensitive topics on the JRE podcast. However, in one instance, he made some comments and used words that had racial undertones, causing people to speak out against him. However, fellow comedian and stand-up legend, Russell Peters, came out to defend the 56-year-old, claiming that Rogan is not that type of person.

“That was serious bullsh*t, and they tried to peg him as a racist,” said Peters. He revealed he had a cordial relationship with Joe Rogan and has met his family on multiple occasions. As such, Peters isn’t one to call him out for something that he knows the JRE host isn’t. “I know him very, very well … I’ve been to his house, I know his wife, I know his kids. I know everything. This is not the guy you’re trying to paint him out to be,” the stand-up legend added.

Joe Rogan has grown to become one of the biggest voices in the world. His million-dollar podcast is arguably the most-watched talk show in the world. Having that kind of influence also calls for a lot of criticism. However, there are a lot of people who always come to the aid of the million-dollar podcast host.
