The former double division champion, ‘The Notorious’, Conor McGregor will make his return to the octagon this year. The Irishman has not been a part of UFC action ever since his loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, last year. McGregor suffered a horrific leg injury during his trilogy bout against Poirier, which has kept him sidelined from fighting.

Recently, McGregor seems to have recovered well from his leg injury and often shows clips on the internet of his training at the gym. In recent posts, we can see that Conor has put on a lot of weight and certainly doesn’t look like a lightweight or featherweight fighter anymore.

In a recent interview with Main Event, Conor’s coach, John Kavanagh, joked that the Irish fighter has the current build of a light heavyweight fighter. Kavanagh also gave updates on McGregor’s recovery.

“I think the physical stage of recovery is pretty much complete now. He’ll be very soon switching over to starting to train mixed martial arts again. That’s when all the fun begins. You don’t have to wonder what he’s doing. He posts about it.”

“He’s been enjoying himself over Christmas, but he’s ready to enter that more serious phase of training and not enjoy the good life as much and then get back in the gym and start getting ready for another contest,” said Kavanagh.
On McGregor cutting weight, Kavanagh said,” I don’t think it’ll be all that difficult. To be honest, he’s made some fairly dramatic weight cuts in the past. 155 seems to suit his frame pretty well. So at the moment, yeah maybe, light heavyweight he’s more suited towards. But I think by the time it’s probably summertime we’re looking at for him to step back in there. The weight will be back down again.”

According to the interview John Kavanagh gave to Main Event, we could probably see a trilogy bout between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz this year. Diaz is in the last fight of his contract at the UFC and will surely look to end his contract with a huge payout.

Kavanagh said,” Probably the Diaz trilogy would be would be a fan favorite,” when the interviewer asked him about what’s next for the Irishman.

Conor’s and Diaz’s rivalry goes a long way and a fight between them would be a decider, as both of them have beaten each other once.
