Mixed Martial Arts is perhaps the most uncertain sport in the world. Which is part of what makes the sport so exciting and engaging for fans. Sean Strickland‘s shockingly unexpected victory over Israel Adesanya at UFC 293 earlier this month is a case in point.

Shortly before that, Sean O’Malley had defeated the man he called the greatest bantamweight champion in UFC history Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292 last month. And since then, the topic of who O’Malley should fight next has been doing the rounds. And the former champion chipped in with his two cents on the topic.

Aljamain Sterling wants Sean O’Malley to fight Merab Dvalishvili

In a recent interview with The Schmo, O’Malley said that he was not afraid of Sterling’s training partner and close friend, Merab Dvalishvili. He was puzzled why people thought he was and pointed out that he beat ‘Aljo’, who he thought was more dangerous than the Armenian. The Montana native also said that he would fight whoever the UFC wants him to fight.

“I’ll fight whoever they want. They want me to fight Merab… Don’t know why everyone thinks I’m scared of Merab. I think Aljo’s better than Merab and I know I able to knock out Aljo,” ‘Suga’ told The Schmo. ‘Funkmaster’ took this statement and encouraged O’Malley to fight Dvalishvili, despite Dana White’s reluctance. “So fight Merab then,” he wrote on his Instagram story accompanied by ‘Suga’s statement.

‘Suga’ calls out ‘Chito’ Vera to avenge lone loss on his record

The new bantamweight champion has already shot down the prospects of an immediate rematch with ‘Funkmaster’. Earlier this month, he had dismissed a title shot for Dvalishvili, but seems to have changed his tune.

However, O’Malley has been clear that he wants to fight veteran bantamweight Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera next. “If I got to pick, if I was running the show, I would say yes [that’s the name], simply because ‘Chito’ is the biggest fight next,” O’Malley said, “not because he had a beautiful performance over Pedro. That’s not the case. If I fight ‘Chito’ next, it’s because that’s what I want and that’s the biggest fight. I’m in the fight business and I want big fights,” he said

The only loss on O’Malley’s record has come at the hands of the the Ecuadorian at UFC 252 back in 2012. The bantamweight champion is of the opinion that he wants to face Vera not necessarily because he is the most deserving, but because it is the biggest fight for O’Malley.
