Joe Rogan reveals the competitive environment at the Comedy Mothership
In episode #1985 of the JRE, Rogan, and Wright talked about his staff. “It’s also exciting for the development of comedy because we’re really dedicated to that”, he claimed. He disclosed that the club held two open mic nights to give a chance to the new comics. Thereafter, he declared that all of the door staff were comics, as well, who had to audition to get the jobs. He also revealed how the staff can climb the ladder to the top each week and grow as comedians.
Additionally, he told how the club provided a competitive environment for the growth of the rising comedians. The pressure of performing in front of guests like Dave Chapell, Dave Attell, Rich Vos, and Shane Gillis, seemingly raised the tension, even if the club was a huge success.
Rogan said, “So, it’s kind of a competitive environment, too. You seeing like ‘Oh, this guy is f**king talented. This one girl is rising up. And this one guy has got it figured out’. You’re watching even over the course of the last two months, these people learn and grow.”
“And this is like this pressure cooker thing going on there, too. Because, you know, Shane Gillis will stop by, Dave Attell will stop by, Rich Vos, Dave Chapell, and Andrew Schultz. It’s like crazy in there. It’s like every night, there’s more wild sh*t going on.”
