“Dictate Where the Fight Goes” – Joe Rogan and Jorge Masvidal Reveal Best Base for MMA

The black belt holder in Taekwondo and Jiu-Jitsu shares his opinion on the sport whenever the time comes. The influential podcast host also brings a wide variety of guests to his podcast who share their opinion on MMA. Recently, he brought Jorge Masvidal for a conversation on his podcast.
The UFC commentator and BMF champion spoke about the best base that a fighter can have in MMA. Many will be shocked that the duo concurred in their opinion on this style of MMA.

The UFC commentator outright named ‘wrestling’ as the best base for a fighter to have in MMA. Additionally, Rogan said that the style of wrestling should be ‘Elite-level’. Joe Rogan said in the episode with Masvidal, “Elite-level wrestling in my opinion is the best base.”
Masvidal then added his points to the topic. He continued, “Best base for sure. Coz you can dictate where the fight goes, you know. If we stay up on the feet, take it down, you know. And it’s just like I was always fascinated by striking, so I grew up with striking. But once I realized it doesn’t matter how fast or good a punch is, if I can’t keep it up on my feet, it means nothing.”

The UFC welterweight spoke about how much wrestling he has added to his workout and training. The conversation revealed how much importance Masvidal gives to wrestling and grappling.
Masvidal revealed, “So I really like focused the last I don’t know, 14 years of my career in heavy grappling and mainly defensive… When I tell you that 70 percent of my mat time in spent in wrestling, whether it would be offense or defense and then other stuff like striking comes so naturally to me.”
