Joe Rogan is back with another million-dollar episode of JRE Podcast, and this time he has once again invited the tech mogul Elon Musk. There is hardly a better person to discuss space and time with, than Elon Musk. The SpaceX CEO is one of the few humans on Earth trying to conquer Mars, and Musk didn’t hold back on this topic in Rogan’s podcast.

Colonizing Mars has been one of ͏humanity’s most ambitious plans.͏ NASA, Roscosmos,͏ CNSA,͏ and ISRO have been engaged in a space race towards Mars for a considerable time. It seems that private players are also entering the competition, ͏with Elon Musk being one of the frontrunners in that regard.

On the JRE episode, no #2054 Elon Musk graced the stage. It was Musk’s fourth appearance in the show and fans were expecting bombastic revelation from the tech mogul and Musk delivered exactly what he was supposed to. Rogan, during the conversation, asked a question to Musk about terraforming the red planet Mars, and Musk was more than happy to share what he knew.

The Space X CEO went on to explain that at first, to sustain a lifestyle in the rugged climate of Mars humanity needs to establish a proper environment for humans to stay in. Musk said “Well, at first, you would have a life support system because Mars has a low-density atmosphere, only about 1% the density of Earth and primarily CO2. Now, over time, you could terraform Mars.”

He further emphasized the meaning of terraform and explained that it would be extremely important to make terraform Mars and global warming would be a good thing for Mars “Terraform means making it like Earth, essentially. If you warm Mars up, there’s a bunch of frozen CO2 that will evaporate, densifying the atmosphere. You’d actually want that kind of global warming on Mars because Mars is about 50% further away from the Sun than Earth. So, it gets less than half of the solar energy that the Earth gets,” said Musk.

Rogan was excited by Musk’s response and asked the tech giant another question about Mars: was Mars a similar planet to Earth at one point in time?

Was Mars ever like Earth?

Down in the conversation, Joe Rogan asked Elon Musk about whether Mars was a similar planet to Earth at some point in the cosmos history. Musk stated that Mars is covered with deep ice and if Mars warms up, it could host a large ocean. So will an issue like global warming which is a great concern for our planet be beneficial in terraforming Mars?

Musk said, “It appears highly likely that Mars had liquid oceans, be it a long time ago. There’s a lot of ice, so there’s this Mars covered in ice, and now the ice is covered in dust for the most part, except at the poles. So, there’s a lot of ice. In fact, I believe if Mars was warmed up, you’d have an ocean about a mile deep on 40% of that of the planet.”
