“(Aspinall’s) got some great skills. He very much reminds me… he looks in a certain way and reminds me of Frank Mir,” the former UFC referee said.
Comparing their physical appearance, McCarthy noted the resemblance between the two fighters. Moreover, he acknowledged that Aspinall’s abilities in stand-up combat surpass those of Mir. “It’s just that I think he’s even better on the feet than Frank Mir.”
With such high praise, it’s evident that Tom Aspinall’s talents are catching the attention of experts and fans alike.
John McCarthy recalls Frank Mir’s prowess
Moreover, McCarthy heaped praise on Frank Mir, highlighting his dominant ground game and relentless nature inside the cage. Recognizing Mir as a highly intellectual individual, McCarthy commended his ability to strategically dismantle opponents on the ground, often forcing them to submit or endure immense pressure.
“You talk about people that hurt people on the ground, Frank Mir was definitely one of them”, McCarthy confidently said. “Frank’s a very intellectual guy. I love Frank and I’ve spent a lot of time with him in a lot of different places,” he added.

Further, he painted a picture of Mir as the kind of competitor who would relentlessly apply submissions, almost challenging opponents to tap out, and if they refused, he would push the boundaries even further.
“I think Frank Mir was that guy that was in the cage, he was very similar in that ‘Here, I’m gonna put you in this. Tap. Oh, you don’t wanna tap?’ And he would just tear it off,” he claimed.
