There are a number of incidents to date where MMA fighters have been caught after taking prohibited substances. Earlier, in the initial years of the UFC, there was no such prohibition on the usage of any medicated substances. But, as the years went on, the organization felt the importance of prohibiting certain drugs. There were a lot of them with capacities to enhance an athlete’s performance. However, even after the imposing of prohibitions, some athletes found it really hard to abide by them.

Recently, the noted former UFC Middleweight champion, Michael Bisping, decided to put out his opinion about the dirtiest athletes in the history of the UFC. A lot of fans might be shocked to know that ‘The Count’ awarded the infamous #1 spot on this list to the noted UFC veteran, Vitor Belfort. However, Bisping also mentioned the reasons for labeling ‘The Phenom’ as the dirtiest player of the game.

The accusation of using prohibited substances had haunted Belfort for most of his MMA career. Well, one can’t say that the accusations were too wrong. Belfort had tested positive for the usage of banned substances twice, in 2006 and 2014.

It was apparent that the accusations weren’t leaving him anytime soon as Bisping brought them up in a video on his YouTube channel, ‘Michael Bisping Podcast’. He also labeled ‘The Phenom’ as a “bl***y piece of shit”.

Bisping introduced Belfort with a heavy ironic distaste, stating, “Vitor ‘The Phenom Hypocrite’ Belfort. The former Light Heavyweight champion, the former Heavyweight champion and the Middleweight contender, and the biggest known drug cheat in the history of the sport.”

Bisping also previously mentioned that Belfort was also the guy who had caused him to lose an eye”. Bisping calling him the “biggest known drug cheat in the history of the sport” might also be an expression displaying his bitterness towards the Brazilian in general.

Michael Bisping also described why prohibited substance usage was such a big issue in MMA

The usage of certain medical substances and PEDs is banished in almost all professional sports. These medications are known to provide athletes with enhanced body functioning, providing them with an unfair advantage on the field. But, when it comes to MMA that threat increases significantly.

Bisping described the exact point of why PEDs should be an even more strict no-no in MMA. He stated, Listen we’re not trying to put a ball into a basket, we’re not trying to kick a ball into the back of the net. We’re trying to knock our partners unconscious”. Now, if an athlete is on PEDs he might knock someone out so hard that he may never get back to his usual self.
