The last bout of the former title challenger Ciryl Gane was a huge disappointment to his fans. Gane lost the bout against Jon Jones at UFC 285 after just 2 minutes and 4 seconds into the very first round. It was Bon Gamin’s lack of grappling skills that paved the way for the victory of Jones. Before fighting ‘Bones’ on 4th March, the Frenchman was able to achieve a glorious victory against Tai Tuivasa at UFC Fight Night 209.

Hence, fans expected Gane and Jones to have a neck-to-neck bout. Instead, Gane fell short of Jones and could not stand long against his grappling skills. Bones came back to the octagon after a hiatus of three long years, while Gane was an active fighter at the promotion. Jones proved that the ring rust has not caught hold of him, and Bon Gamin showed that a lack of wrestling skills can be dangerous against strong opponents.

Curtis Blaydes talks about Ciryl Gane’s loss at UFC 285

Recently, the UFC heavyweight, Curtis Blaydes, was talking to LowKick MMA’s James Lynch. When asked about Gane’s loss at UFC 285, Blaydes said, “When you have a hole that big in your grappling and then you are going against [Jon Jones] who, that’s like a strength of his. I’m not surprised he got the finish. I was expecting the finish. I think it’s like a lot of guys, he [Ciryl Gane] got away with not having to wrestle.”

Blaydes continued, “I know a lot of people expected him just to plug it. It takes years, it takes years to learn how to grapple. He is not going to get it. I don’t expect him to get it.” His brutally honest remarks were indeed a warning for Gane.

The promotion ignored their request

Soon after Gane lost the bout, the Frenchman’s coach, Fernand Lopez, addressed the media. He mentioned that one major reason for Gane’s poor performance is the UFC’s negligence. Gane and his coach asked for some more time, but the promotion was not ready to wait. Hence, the bout happened where Bones had a seemingly effortless victory in a completely new division.
