UFC 287 closed a chapter on one of the most famous combat sports rivalries of all time. Israel Adesanya faced Alex Pereira for the fourth time in combat sports at UFC 287. After losing the first three times, Adesanya was finally able to defeat Pereira and reclaim his middleweight gold as well.

Many UFC fans and analysts have been talking about the fight and its outcome. One of those is the former light heavyweight and heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier.

He also noted that Alex Pereira, who is relatively new to MMA, will learn a lot from this loss. According to Cormier, Pereira had a lot of power in his strikes, but his defense was lacking. “But I think Alex will learn from this. He will learn that he cannot take the risk when he has somebody hurt as recklessly with 4oz gloves,” Cormier said.

The retired UFC legend also pointed out there can be a potential rematch between the two fighters. One of the main reasons that Cormier gave supporting this statement was that Adesanya had defeated the majority of ranked middleweight fighters. It is true that there is no clear challenger for the title right now in the middleweight division.

Will there be a rematch?

There is no denying the fact that the MMA world will love to see Adesanya and Pereira complete their trilogy in MMA. However, no one is sure if the fight will take place. In the post-fight conference, Dana White talked about Pereira moving to light heavyweight. One of the biggest reasons for this potential move is the difficulty Pereira faces in cutting weight.
