“I Closed Myself In” – Liana Jojua Explains How Being Cut From the UFC Affected Her

UFC fighter Liana Jojua was cut off from the UFC roster a while back and this seems to have affected her quite a lot. She had signed up for the promotion when she was quite young. However, her career did not take off as expected. Out of four UFC fights, she won only one bout.
After losing her fight against Cortney Casey in November, plus missing weight for that fight, the UFC decided to cut ties with her. This decision was, however, was not very surprising because several other fighters have also been cut off recently.

The UFC’s resolution to let her go affected her so much so that wasn’t able to even use her phone. The fighter recently mentioned to WMMA Rankings), “For a week or two, I practically did not use the phone – I closed myself in and did not go out of this state and was able to think about the future and make plans again. Of course, now my condition is much better.”

She further stated, “The UFC is the best organization in the world, [with] the best fighters and the most media attention. I think this was a good period in my life. I’ve learned a lot. After working on myself, I will try to return to the UFC. Then everything will be different. When I signed with the UFC, I was just 23 years old. Some people do not even dream of being in the UFC at this age, and I already have such a serious experience behind me. I have enough time to work on myself and get back there.”

What’s next for Liana Jojua?

It looks like the fighter has taken enough time to think clearly about the situation. Her positive outlook towards the future is great because several other MMA promotions would be interested in getting her on board. However, she is interested in working with the UFC when the right time comes.

Overall ‘She Wolf’ has an 8-5-0 record, and she even held the title at FNG before moving to UFC. So there is no doubt that she is an incredible fighter.
