Dana White and the UFC parted ways with veteran commentator Mike Goldberg at the end of 2016. Alongside Joe Rogan, Goldberg was a familiar voice and a constant presence in the promotion for almost two decades. The revered commentator last graced the desk at UFC 207 in December 2016. In a recent interview, Goldberg talked about meeting UFC boss Dana White for the first time after his departure from the UFC. He described their chance encounter as a moment of great closure.
While talking to Ariel Helwani on ‘The MMA Hour,’ the former UFC and Bellator commentator described his run-in with White while they were in Las Vegas.

Mike Goldberg on meeting Dana White after parting ways with the UFC
According to Goldberg, he was in Vegas for his son’s hockey tournament when he ran into White. The 58-year-old said he should have tried more to talk to his former boss and be grateful for their business together. He added it had almost been a year and a half since his exit from the UFC.

He said, “I should have been the guy to be proactive and walk up and thank Dana. I should have done that. I should have said ‘Dana, thank you,’ because business is business.”
Goldberg also revealed how his son was instrumental in patching things up with White in more ways than one. It was for his son that he was in Vegas. They were staying in the Red Rocks, where they ran into White.
While Goldberg could not decide whether to talk to the UFC president, his son helped make up his mind- “I froze. I did not know what to do. Do I say hello? Do I not? What do I do? And my son, God bless him, he’s like ‘Dad, go say hi.’ And I did and I shook his hand.”
While the meeting gave a sense of closure to Goldberg, their conversation was quite brief.
What did Goldberg and White discuss?
In another interview from 2021, Goldberg revealed the conversation he had with White when he ran into him in Vegas. According to Goldberg, White’s first reaction to seeing him was, “What the f*ck are you doing here?”

Goldberg continued, “I walked up, and I said, ‘Hey, Dana, how are you?’ We shook hands. I said I’d love to stay in touch. He said we should do that. And there you go.”
However, he said that it was an awkward interaction because it had been such a long time since the pair talked. Regardless, Goldberg said maybe their meeting was meant to be.
