It is practically next to impossible not to talk about pool when a professional pool player sits across the table. The same scenario happened with Joe Rogan in the recent episode of his podcast, where he invited the pool superstar, Fedor Gorst. The UFC commentator released high levels of enthusiasm for the sport. However, as the conversation proceeded, the podcaster revealed a hidden desire. He revealed an idea and a dream that might lead to the upliftment of the sport.

Gorst is a celebrated player in the pool community. He has made a name in the World Nine-Ball Championship, U.S. Open Pool Championship, and the Derby City Classic. However, Rogan’s interest in pool stole the show.

The 55-year-old podcaster is good not only at combat sports but also at pool. However, the fan believed that pool was an underappreciated sport. Although Gorst claimed otherwise and said that the game has been growing with bigger prize money, Rogan’s beliefs seemed stuck.

Rogan said, “But, it’s an underappreciated game that occasionally blows up in America.” The podcaster gave the example of the time when ‘The Color of Money’ and ‘The Hustler’ were released. He recalled that the pool rooms were completely packed. But soon after, they experienced a literal drought in the rooms, with absolutely no one to play.

Furthermore, he admitted that the internet has helped the game grow a lot. However, the commentator also revealed one of his plans to bring pool back into the limelight.

He said, “One of the things that I want to do is I want to host matches here. And me, and my friend Tommy, from the east coast, he’s a really good player, do commentary and put it up on YouTube. I think it’d be f**king fun, too. To get a guy like, you know, maybe you versus a guy like Mika Immonen, or a guy like Shane Van Boening, and have you guys play matches for prize money.”

Rogan further talked about his ambition. H said, “I’ve been trying to figure out ideas to make pool more popular. I think the best one is me do commentary because I can’t play in a tournament, but I can. You know, I can play good enough that I understand what’s going on.”

Surprisingly, this wasn’t the first time the beloved UFC commentator declared that he wanted to host pool matches. Back in 2019, he stumbled upon the topic in an interview with Andrew Santino. It struck Rogan’s mind when Santino threw the bone at him. Santino asked, “Why don’t you do a pool show?”

Without a doubt, this had Rogan’s gears running as he planned how to make the matches entertaining. Finally, he said, “It could be fun.” Although the man is a giant in combat sports, he could ensure that pool gets more attention than it does today.
