With this win, Oliveira positioned himself as a strong contender for a rematch with Islam Makhachev. Chael Sonnen, known for his candid analysis, questioned Oliveira’s sincerity in a recent YouTube video. Sonnen questioned Oliveira’s claims of not being himself during the first bout, asserting that it appeared to be the same fighter he had witnessed before. “Charles Oliveira says he wants to rematch Islam. He says that that wasn’t him (the last time). I did not believe those things. Sure looked like him. He’s now saying ‘I will go to Abu Dhabi. I will go to Islam’s backyard’. When you’re of that mindset, the only thing that you’re succeeding at doing is convincing smart minds like Chael that you really do want to do this rematch.”

With his spectacular performance at UFC 289, ‘Do Bronx’ was able to impress the entire MMA community. However, it seems like Sonnen wasn’t very pleased with the Brazilian’s performance.

Charles Oliveira lost more than he won, according to Sonnen!

Chael Sonnen believes that Oliveira was initially losing in various aspects of the fight, including wrestling and range battles. In the brief grappling encounter between Dariush and Oliveira, Sonnen believes that the former was dominating it.

Who out-wrestled whom? Not even a question! Benny. Whose groundwork looked more festive? Not even a question! Benny.”
