“I’m Disappointed…” – Conor McGregor Idolizing UFC Star Completely Disregards Irishman’s Paddy Pimblett Opinion Post UFC 282

Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett is one of the most renowned names of the UFC. ‘The boy from Liverpool’ is one of the fighters in the UFC to have experienced a meteoric rise. Pimblett was signed in by the UFC on 4 September 2021. Since then, he has gone on to become a fan favorite and often receives huge pops from the crowd during his fights. After a long contract dispute with the UFC, ‘The Baddy’ finally took the Octagon at UFC 282 on December 10, 2022.
Despite managing to get the better of his opponent, Jared Gordon, both Pimblett and the UFC had to face a lot of criticism from fight fans and experts. Pimblett’s win was also questioned by the famed UFC Welterweight and Conor McGregor’s countryman, ‘Ian Machado Garry’.

Pimblett went on to win the bout via a unanimous decision. But Garry, like a lot of other fans and experts, thought that the decision should’ve gone in favor of Gordon.

‘The Future’, like a lot of others, was accepting of the judge’s decision in favor of Pimblett. He also took to Twitter to vent out his views on the outcome of the Pimblett vs Gordon fight. ‘Conor McGregor’s countryman wrote, “Paddy is a star we all see the ‘it factor’ but as a fan of the sport I’m disappointed by that decision #UDGORDON”.

It was apparent from his words that he lauded the ways how Pimblett had become a fan favorite in such a short span of time. He also implied that Pimblett was a huge prospect already, which would probably get even bigger as time progresses.

Garry also praised the unique ‘it factor’ in Pimblett, which allowed him to rise to a fan-enthralling persona in the UFC.
But it was the decision made by the judges which disgusted him. All three judges at the ringside scored the bout 29-28 in favor of “The Baddy”. A lot of other MMA personalities and media houses thought like Garry.

The noted MMA-covering media house, ‘MMAFighting.com’ reported that 23 out of 24 media houses covering MMA had adjudged Gordon as the victor of the bout. Further, 11 out of the 24 houses were of the opinion that Gordon had defeated Pimblett in all three rounds of the bout.

The noted MMA reporter, Ariel Helwani, also disregarded the judge’s decision to award the bout to Pimblett. He went on to tweet, “What did y’all think of that decision?”. He also opinionated, “It was 29-28 at worst for Jared Gordon. Thought he won the first and third. Could make a case for second, too. Pretty incredible not a single judge had it for him? How’s that possible?”

It’s not the first time that the MMA community has revolted against the authority regarding their miserable decision-making. But, incidents like these would be disappointing for both the UFC, who would lose their credibility and the fight fans, who would lose their interest.
