Jon Jones Says ‘Daddy’s Coming Home’-Warns Heavyweights To Not Stand Around

Ciryl Gane controlled Jairzinho Rozenstruik to earn a comfortable unanimous decision win in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Rozenstruik vs Gane. This was a fight that captivated one and all, and the heavyweight new boy, Jon Jones, kept a close eye on the action as his potential future opponents duked it out. ‘Bon Gamin’ controlled the distance and outfoxed ‘Bigi Boy’ for the full 25 minutes.
However, Rozenstruik was not at all willing to push the pace, which helped Gane to relax a bit as well. ‘Bones’ Jones, though, was skeptical of the approach from both men as he believed neither fighter was willing to push the pace. He had a subtle warning for his future opponents.
‘Bones’ tweeted, “These boys better get used to pushing the pace, all this standing around ain’t gonna fly when daddy comes home.”

Jones controls the pace of a fight like no one else, and he has forced his opponents to adjust to his style throughout his career. He is a master of making his opponents shift from their game plans.
Also, for a man of his size, he is extremely fluid and fast too. Those attributes can certainly turn out to be decisive once he makes his debut. There are a precious few on the roster who can keep up with him on that aspect. One might argue Gane’s flair and speed can cause Jones some problems. But, we will only know that with time.
However, ‘Jones’s proclamation of himself as a “daddy” in the heavyweight division may be a bit premature as he has 0 heavyweight fights under his belt. Of course, he is the greatest 205lbs of all time, but heavyweight is a different ball game as one shot can change the aspect of any fight.

Is Jon Jones right in his assessment?
It’s true heavyweights rely on power mostly rather than movement. Derrick Lewis, Francis Ngannou, Jairzinho Rozenstruik are fighters of that type. But, there are fighters like the champion Stipe Miocic, Alistair Overeem, and tonight’s winner Ciryl Gane, who have excellent movement combined with their extreme power.
This can be trouble for Jones if he doesn’t adjust accordingly. It will be intriguing to see how Jones performs upon his divisional debut, which is expected to be against the winner of Stipe Miocic vs Francis Ngannou.
