Former UFC light-heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, took to Twitter recently and seemingly took a sly dig at the UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou. The Cameroonian fighter ascended to the top of the mountain after his KO win over Stipe Miocic at UFC 260.
However, Jones had some plans and tweeted the same. He wrote, “The greatest title in the world is coming back to the greatest country in the world,” he wrote.

‘Bones’ was touted to fight ‘The Predator’ after UFC 260. He relinquished his light-heavyweight title in 2020 as he was aiming to make a move up to heavyweight. Jones wanted to get his frame right for heavyweight and took some time off. Given his run in the UFC, it looked almost certain for him to fight for the belt in his divisional debut.

But the situation is much more complex than that at the moment, as ‘Bones’ and the UFC are miles apart from coming to an agreement on terms regarding payment. So, Jones’s future is in jeopardy and Ngannou is expected to fight Derrick Lewis in the first defense of his title.
It is not clear if this tweet is an indication that ‘Bones’ has made some headway with the UFC regarding the pay dispute. Hence, as of now, his heavyweight bow remains in limbo.

Fans want to see the best fighters of their generations clash. Ngannou is one of a kind with his scary knockout prowess. There is no doubt he is the most powerful puncher to ever grace the Octagon. And Jones is a generational talent and is considered the G.O.A.T of the UFC in his own caliber.
So, the fight between Jones and Ngannou is something very appealing to the fans. This was the perfect opportunity for the UFC to put that fight together. Only time will tell if it’s wise to let this massive potential booking slide by.
