One of the most captivating fighters in the UFC, Conor McGregor always seems to attract controversies. The prolific fighter has a charisma that transcends the Octagon, and such a widespread influence comes with its own set of problems. Similarly, the opinion-dividing fighter has his own inside shares of inside and outside the Octagon controversies. In the recent of the Irishman’s troubles, a longtime friend of his has dragged the fighter to the court.

Notably, McGregor’s long-term training partner, Artem Lobov, has filed a suit to seek a stake in the million dollars worth deal.

Conor McGregor and his latest legal issue

Retired UFC fighter Artem Lobov on Wednesday sued the Dublin-born fighter for the alleged role he played in developing the Proper No. Twelve Whiskey brand. Further, the Russian-born fighter claimed that while he floated the idea of the new venture, he was snubbed from the deal.

The 36-year-old fighter, as reported by Irish Independent, opened court proceedings in Ireland as he claimed 5% of McGregor’s profits from the sale. Following this, McGregor’s long-time training partner also claimed that he had turned down around $1 million from the UFC star.

The 13-15 record holder’s solicitor, Dermot McNamara, also asserted in a conversation with the Irish Independent that Lobov was the initial creator and co-founder of the concept of an Irish whiskey brand associated with ‘The Notorious’. As the adjudication of the matter rested upon the court, his solicitor declined to make further comments.

Significantly, the former UFC champion sold the majority stake of the brand to Proximo Spirits for $600 million. Furthermore, ‘Mystic Mac’, his agent Audie Attar and their partner Ken Austin shared the profits among them.

However, the popular whiskey brand retained Conor McGregor as its ambassador for promotional purposes.

Lobov’s previous claims about Proper No. Twelve Whiskey

In an exclusive interaction with TalkSports, the SBG Ireland product revealed, “A few people know, but this was actually my idea. I was the person who came up with the idea to do a whiskey for Conor.” Further, he also detailed the circumstances that led to the foundation of the brand.

Lobov narrated that in 2016, the GOT fame Hafþór Björnsson aka Thor approached McGregor with the liquor business opportunity. While ‘Thor’ proposed to the Irish superstar to launch the vodka in Iceland.

When McGregor turned to Lobov for his advice, he suggested exploring the ripe market for Irish whiskey. Later on, ‘The Russian Hammer’ also brokered the deal with Paradigm Sports and rejected the $1 million reward from ‘Mr. Whiskey’.

However, the long-standing friendship has turned sour. And the two SBG Ireland representatives will sort the issue in the High Court.
