However, to date, there are no official words on such a matchup. In fact, if experts are to be believed, Israel Adesanya might be bypassed for the belt by a new title contender. In Strickland’s own words: “Yeah guys, it was a good time. You guys, it was a good time. You know, I like fighting, I like to hit, I give it 110 percent. It was a good fight, and I thought Izzy would be better. I’m sure the UFC might give him a rematch, and you know, it might take it a little bit more seriously and put on a better fight.” The statement came as a part of ‘Tarzan’s analysis of the UFC 293 event in his 11-minute video.

This comes as a surprise, considering there are no official words on the matter. It is noteworthy that before Strickland’s anticipation, Dana White too had nodded to the possibility of a rematch. But despite their CEO’s words, there is no confirmation from UFC’s side. However, ever since his victory, Strickland has been quite vocal about his thoughts on facing the Kiwi again. The American’s anticipation might be an indication of a possible Strickland vs. Adesanya 2.
Experts aren’t too sure about Adesanya securing another title shot
Despite being just six years into the UFC, Israel Adesanya has already established himself as one of the most dominant forces in the history of the promotion. After securing the belt in 2019, ‘The Last Stylebender’ went on a dominant run, defending the belt consecutively five times. This streak was halted when ‘Izzy’ dropped his belt to Alex Pereira at UFC 281, only to recapture it again.

But despite this resume, many experts, including former champion Michael Bisping, believe that Adesanya’s rematch might be ignored in favor of a new contender. They base this assumption on the belief that Adesanya’s last match before his title loss was a rematch as well, and two consecutive rematches are something unheard of in the history of UFC. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what the matchmakers have planned.
