UFC welterweight Khamzat Chimaev sat down with BT Sport in the lead-up to his UFC return at UF C 267. ‘Borz’ hasn’t competed since September 2020 when he stopped Gerald Meerschaert via knockout in just 17 seconds. His 3-0 run in the UFC consolidated his hype, however, he wasn’t able to capitalize on the eyeballs and has been out of action since September.
Chimaev locked horns with a lengthy battle with COVID-19 and he missed out on several marquee showcase match-ups. He’s finally returned to fighting over a year later and will take on ‘The Leech’ Li Jingliang. While doing the media rounds for his fight, Chimaev was asked about the upcoming welterweight title fight at UFC 268 and he had some interesting takeaways.
“They are both like, both guys I think Usman more forward in this fight but they looks both same fighters. A little bit wrestling, a little bit striking, and strong guys. Nothing special.”

It’s clear that Chimaev isn’t particularly impressed with either Kamaru Usman or Colby Covington’s overall skill set. However, he seems to acknowledge their place atop one of the most competitive divisions in the UFC at the moment- welterweight. If things go according to plan, Khamzat Chimaev will be pushed towards the title picture in no time.
