Featherweight fighter Bryce Mitchell appears to be in a financial struggle. He recently shared a video on social media where he was seen with a broken nose with stuffed tissues in his nostrils to stop the bleeding. He requested funds from his Instagram followers to cover his medical expenses, as he did not have insurance. This video caught Sean Strickland’s attention, who put the UFC on blast.

According to Sean Strickland, the UFC will only provide insurance benefits if they have been booked for a matchup. “Well, I was wrong……. You have to have a fight booked to get medical from the UFC, lmao what a joke,” he commented on Bryce Mitchell’s video. However, it appears that Strickland and Mitchell could be wrong after a revelation made by a veteran MMA reporter.

Reporter corrects Sean Strickland and Bryce Mitchell’s claims regarding insurance in UFC contracts

Luke Thomas recently attempted to verify Sean Strickland and Bryce Mitchell’s claims about the UFC’s insurance policy, and he found out that regardless of whether a fighter is competing or not, he or she is certain to get insurance benefits if they’re under contract. The contract statement read: “The policy stays in effect regardless of whether a fighter has a booking. As long as the fighter is under contract with Zuffa, the benefits remain.”

He added that during the initial talks fighters had with Dana White’s promotion, anything related to the insurance details was never brought up.  This suggests that there is a massive communication gap between the roster and their employers.

“I’m trying to verify what the actual policy is. I’ve spoken to several fighters today who believe they only have coverage when a fight is signed, but when the policy was first introduced, it was not presented like this,” the veteran MMA reporter wrote on X.

Well, insurance policies have been a cause of concern in the MMA world for a long time, so it didn’t come as a surprise that Sean Strickland stood up for Bryce Mitchell when he was looking for ways to pay medical bills. However, it seems like the UFC featherweight found help in fixing his nose without any issues at all, and he did not need to look too far for help.

Mitchell gets his nose fixed for free

Bryce Mitchell was really worried, thinking that he had messed up big time after breaking his nose. Firstly, he claimed that his nose was so broken that he thought it might not straighten out ever again. And secondly, the UFC fighter also had concerns about the medical bills because he knew getting his nose fixed, given how bad it was looking, might cost him thousands of dollars.

However, a miracle happened, and Bryce Mitchell thanks God for it. When his plea for medical funds went viral online, one of his friends decided to take matters into his own hands and offer ‘Thug Nasty’ his medical expertise for free. “Hey, I want to let y’all know that I’m doing really good… I’m totally healed. Thank the lord. God, thank you so much for healing me… My buddy did fix it for free,” an elated Mitchell stated in another video on Instagram.

Coming back to the insurance dilemma, there is no doubt that the UFC covers medical charges for fighters even if they are not booked for a fight. But there are concerns about the scope of their coverage because there is still a lot of ambiguity surrounding it. What is your take on this situation? Let us know in the comments section below.
