While Amanda Nunes’ defeat has shocked people, many have forgotten to give Julianna Peña her credit. The way Peña faced Nunes and changed the game in the second round was commendable. Many were of the opinion that Nunes got tired extremely quickly. She wanted to finish her opponent and hence, kept swinging at Peña. This might have caused her to get tired. UFC commentator Joe Rogan felt it was “inexcusable” to gas out this early in a fight.

On his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, he had a long and interesting conversation with UFC fighter Marlon Vera. Both discussed the Nunes-Peña bout where Rogan expressed his dissatisfaction. He said, “For you to be a world champion in two divisions and universally recognized as the greatest women fighter of all time, which Amanda is, it’s inexcusable to be that tired in the second round.”

Further, he said that Peña still wasn’t getting the credit she deserves. He said, “It was caused by Julianna. Julianna made her quit. She didn’t just quit on her own. You’ve got to give Julianna all the credit. … Yeah, she made her quit. But the way she made her quit was crazy. No hooks, choke wasn’t on at all. It was on the chin. … She was exhausted. She quit.”
‘The Venezuelan Vixen’ and her sheer force caused Nunes’ submission. Many forget to acknowledge this. Thus, Rogan wanted to put it forth.
His guest, Vera too, agreed with him and said, “She makes you quit. You don’t quit on your own.”

Rogan pointed out that Peña didn’t actually choke Nunes. Instead, the choke was on her chin. Marlon Vera felt that ‘The Lioness’ might have submitted, thinking that she would leave it for another day. Rogan felt she used the choke as an “excuse”.
Rogan also mentioned how Nunes has submitted a few fights earlier in her career in a similar fashion. But later on, went on to become extremely dominant in the ring.
