Covington reportedly suffered a broken jaw in the third round of the fight, and things went downhill for him from there. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ dominated the fight, and Covington, despite his injury, held his own till the final minute.

After the fight, Covington wasn’t very pleased with the loss and blamed referee Marc Goddard for the same. He believed that it was an unfair stoppage. Nevertheless, as the result was official, this was the first time in 8 fights that Covington had lost a bout. Furthermore, it was the first time he got knocked out.

Since his initial encounter with Kamaru Usman, ‘Chaos’ has only fought once. In September 2020, he defeated Tyron Woodley by TKO. On the other hand, Kamaru Usman made three more successful title defenses after UFC 245. He beat Gilbert Burns at UFC 258 and Jorge Masvidal at UFC 251 and 261.

The fans are well aware of both combatants’ animosity for one another and they expect to see some serious violence. Covington will seek vengeance at UFC 268 after losing to ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ in their previous fight. Also, Usman will seek a third consecutive T/KO and look to hand ‘Chaos’ his second knockout defeat.
