The beef between the two former light heavyweight champions began in 2014. Ever since then, DC and Jones have engaged in verbal wars along with physical altercations and two neck-to-neck bouts in the UFC Octagon. In both bouts, Jon Jones emerged victorious. During the conversation, DC detailed the moments when both enemies kept aside their bitter feelings to console each other in the darkest phase of their lives. DC said, … when my father passed, he sent me a message, he really did, and even in that moment, I appreciated that. For all that we’ve been through, I appreciated him sending me that message as I sent that message for his mother because we understand what family is… He did send me a message when my mother passed and my father passed.”

When the two fighters faced each other in the octagon

‘Bones’ and ‘DC’ locked horns twice in the UFC. The first time they both came face-to-face was at UFC 182 in 2015. During the bout, Cormier tried hard to earn the belt from Jones. However, Jones, taller and stronger than Cormier, emerged victorious in retaining his belt. The judges’ cards came down in favor of the champion, with all three scoring the fight 49–46.

A rematch between the duo took place in 2017 at UFC 214. Nonetheless, this time, things were completely different as Jones became a challenger and Cormier was the light heavyweight king. Bones won the fight via a brutal head kick in round three. However, his reign on the light heavyweight throne was brief, as the bout was later declared a no-contest when Jones tested positive for turinabol. Soon afterward, the belt was returned to Cormier.
