“There’s No Charles Oliveira for the Bear World” – Joe Rogan Explains BJJ Techniques Used by Deadly Carnivores

It was really fascinating to see how Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s father made him wrestle a bear in his childhood to teach him the basics of wrestling. The work certainly paid off because there was no one in his 29-0 career that the Dagestani could not out-wrestle. Being some of the most ferocious fighters in the wilderness, bears are known to have some serious fighting skills, and Joe Rogan in his recent interaction has illuminated the ability of the beast, comparing it to some of the human-devised martial arts forms.
Rogan knows the world of MMA inside out. Being a former kickboxer and a BJJ black belt, Rogan understands that sometimes, having animal instinct is necessary for fighting, and in his recent conversation on JRE # 2081, highlighted how there’s no BJJ in bear fighting.

Joe Rogan recently hosted stand-up comedian, writer, and actor Tony Hinchcliffe on his new episode of JRE. Amid the conversation, the duo indulged in a conversation about Martial arts in the realm of the animal kingdom.
While watching a clip of two bears fighting Hinchcliffe stated that the bears are unable to incorporate Jiu-Jitsu in their fighting style and that being at the bottom would work well for them, Rogan interrupted to state that Hinchcliffe’s assessment of the fight was wrong. “There’s no… Some of them do. Some of them do” said Rogan.

He further added, “There’s no benefit in the bottom position in bear fighting. They don’t have submissions, but they do have some little hip moves and little hip escapes, and they do position themselves to hold you down. Seems like they’ve got some experience. They’ll do side control.” The BJJ black belt in Rogan was not even close to done. He further explained the nuances of BJJ elements present in a bear fight.
“They are like biting the neck and holding them down like this. If you are a bear and you are at the bottom, you’re in a bad position. There’s no Charles Oliveira for the bear world, right? There’s no Paul Craig of the bear world,” he said. Rogan’s assessment of bears reminds us of that time when he dived deep into another incident of a bear fighting with a human.
When Rogan recounted the chilling human-bear confrontation
Back in 2022, Rogan shared an incident in a gripping mountain encounter, where a brave man found himself face-to-face with an aggressive brown bear. The intense confrontation unfolded in a video where the man, amidst terrified screams, employed the widely-known technique of making noise to deter the bear. Simultaneously, he resorted to physical measures to fend off the formidable creature.

The hiker faced a fierce bear attack, but skillfully managed to ward off the aggressive animal. The podcaster reposted the video with a caption that said “This video is going around the internet, and it’s a great wake-up call for people who have a distorted idea of what a wild predator is like. Bears are cool, fascinating animals, but they live a brutal and ruthless life. This guy is very fortunate that he got out of this relatively unscathed.”
