Tragedy struck the mixed martial arts community as a rising star met an untimely demise. Shalie Lipp was a one-time standout high school athlete from western Minnesota who trained at the Academy of Combat Arts in Fargo. She was making a name for herself as an MMA attraction before this accident.

Promising MMA fighter Shalie Lipp passes away

On Sunday morning, a two-vehicle crash occurred on eastbound Interstate 94 on the Red River Bridge. The details surrounding the crash remain unclear, but it claimed the life of the 21-year-old Lipp, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles. The State Patrol confirmed that Lipp was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident.

“She was the definition of someone who lit up a room with excitement, talent, and charisma,” Bjornberg said. “She had an amazing work ethic and had only just returned from a month of training in Thailand.”

Despite being only 19 years old, Lipp had already faced some of the top fighters in the Midwest. Her knowns highly regarded her skills and potential. Many predicted that she would make it to the UFC one day. Lipp‘s coach at the Academy of Combat Arts, Joseph Trottier, was driving the car that she was in. He escaped the crash unharmed.
