Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones might end up becoming one of the biggest “what if” fights in MMA history. There were talks about Jon Jones moving up to the heavyweight division to take on Francis Ngannou, who was the UFC heavyweight champion back in 2022. However, due to contract negotiation issues, Ngannou parted ways with the UFC, leaving the space for the new champion to make his way up.
Jon Jones submitted Ciryl Gane at the main event of UFC 285 in the first round, making him the heavyweight champion of the UFC. Given that both fighters were eager to fight each other in the UFC before negotiations fell through, there is still some awkward tension between them, which was quite evident during their recent run-in.

The UFC heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, was in attendance for the PFL vs Bellator: Champions vs. Champions event in Saudi Arabia on the 24th of February. So was Francis Ngannou, given that he was supposed to fight the winner of the Bader vs Ferreira fight. Given that both heavyweights were in attendance, a run-in between the two was bound to happen. And it did. After the event, Francis Ngannou walked across the place where ‘Bones’ was standing. Francis Ngannou approached Jon Jones, and they shared a humorous moment. Ngannou shook hands with the UFC champion, playfully patted Jones on the stomach, and joked, “You need to get back to training.” The UFC champion laughed as Ngannou walked away.

While the clash between Ngannou and Jones is eagerly anticipated by most MMA fans, the likelihood of the fight materializing currently appears slim. Moreover, considering the advancing age of both fighters, the prospects of them meeting inside the octagon seem diminished. Nonetheless, Francis Ngannou does face a formidable challenge in his upcoming MMA return.

Renan Ferreira shocked the world at the main event of the PFL vs Bellator: Champions vs. Champions event in Saudi Arabia by knocking out the Bellator heavyweight champion, Ryan Bader, in just 21 seconds. His win will now allow him to face Francis Ngannou on his return to the MMA.
The Predator himself claimed that he would face off against the winner of the Ferreira vs Bader fight. He stated, “It is my intention to return to the sport. When exactly, I think depends on March 8.
