When Khamzat Chimaev burst through in the UFC back in 2020, picking up consecutive wins in a matter of days, comparisons between him and Khabib Nurmagomedov were quickly drawn by MMA fans. This was mainly owing to his wrestling caliber, as well as the fact that they belonged to the same Caucasian region of Eastern Europe. But as his career progressed over the last couple of years, fans can pretty much agree that there have been more dissimilarities between the two than one could have expected. And it doesn’t stop at that, as surprisingly, there were even rumors that the two athletes were not on good terms with each other. This belief was further fuelled after Chimaev was seen having an altercation with Abubakar Nurmagomedov during UFC 280

Making an appearance on ‘The MMA hour’, the Chechnya-born MMA fighter talked about his relationship with the former lightweight champ and addressed the rumors surrounding them.

“I always feel cool with Khabib. Everyone thinking like I had some problems with Khabib. I’ve never had some problems.” He explained.

Going back to UFC 280, where his altercation with Abubakar Nurmagomedov, a friend of the undefeated fighter had gone viral, Chimaev explained that the issue had been sorted out.

“His brother or his cousin I don’t know, we had some conversation… little bit problems with each other so but it never was a big thing. So we meet in Abu Dhabi. we like sorry to be punch each other.” Chimaev narrates.

Despite all minor differences that might have cropped up, the 28-year-old did mention something that shows the common connection that fighters from the region share.
