During an appearance on ‘MMA Fighting’s ‘The Fighter vs. The Writer’, UFC veteran Matt Brown stated that he doesn’t agree with the UFC president’s suggestion for Chris Weidman to retire. He said, “I don’t agree with Dana. I don’t think Chris needs to retire.” He thinks ‘The All-American’ needs a little more time to settle in since he’s been out for over two years.

Moreover, he didn’t understand why the 54-year-old promoter said that the former champion must retire. However, Brown believes that Dana White has the right to an opinion. “I don’t know why Dana is saying that, but he’s entitled to his own opinion.” The veteran further added, “Dana is a strong, opinionated guy.” However, he did mention one specific reason why the UFC president might have said what he said.

Brown believes that the 54-year-old promoter wants to see fighters perform well

The 42-year-old veteran ideated one scenario why Dana White suggested that Chris Weidman should consider retirement. It is because he likes Chris Weidman as a fighter and as a person. Moreover, White hates to see the fighters that he likes underperform in their matchups. “Dana, he likes to see guys performing at their best, especially the guys that he likes,” said Matt Brown.

Brown further mentioned that Weidman, at the age of 39, still has some more fights left in him. He believes that great things are waiting for him in the future. “I still think [Weidman] can do big things,” the veteran added.
