Robert Whittaker seemed to have dropped a bombshell on social media.

The former UFC middleweight champion took to Instagram to hint at a potential title shot. In a recent post, he wrote, “11 weeks #AndNew @ufc @ufcanz.” Whittaker was the champion before he dropped his title to Israel Adesanya in a highly anticipated fight. He was on a nine-fight win streak before he stepped inside the octagon to face Adesanya. ‘The Last Stylebender’ finished the fight in the second via a knockout.

Since the loss, ‘The Reaper‘ has found his form back. He is currently on a three-fight win streak and has defeated other top contenders in the division. After beating Kelvin Gastelum in his last fight, he, according to many, was the favorite to face the champion. Now it looks like he will get a chance to avenge his UFC 243 loss.

Adesanya, since his win against Whittaker, has defended his title three times. And hasn’t really been pushed by any of his opponents. He even moved a division to challenge for the light heavyweight title but was beaten comfortably by then champ, Jan Blachowicz. That was his first professional MMA loss.

However, he had to undergo emergency dual surgery immediately. Because of an abdominal hernia of the intestine and a twisted and collapsed bowel in February 2019. His first fight after recovery was against Adesanya and he was knocked out in the second round. Since then, he has been on a journey to fight for the title again.

A rematch between the two is what fans have been looking forward to ever since the first fight. And everyone would be waiting for the matchup to become official.
