“He Took Care of Me”- Fabricio Werdum Indebted to Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Manager

UFC Heavyweight veteran Fabricio Werdum delivered a massive performance on July 25. The victory came in the good old ‘Vai Cavalo’ style as the former Heavyweight champion used his impeccable ground skills to submit Heavyweight debutant Alexander Gustafsson midway through the first round.
Furthermore, this was the last fight remaining on Werdum’s contract. He had said earlier that there are very high chances of him retiring after he gets rid of his contractual mandates. To end it with such flair worked out quite well for him.

Yet, he is not entirely committed to the idea of retirement. In the post-fight presser, when talking about leaving the sport for good, he said,
“I don’t say no, man. You know, I have to talk to Ali [Abdelaziz] first. Ali is the best manager in the world. One hundred percent. Ali helped me a lot. When I [had] a bad moment in my career, he helped me [with] everything. He [took] care of me. He [takes] care of all fighters. He’s amazing. And for sure it’s special for me, 100%, because I’m like a [handsome] guy, you know? [laughs]… I don’t know man. I will enjoy this victory first. Appreciate it.”
What options does Fabricio Werdum have ahead of him?
42-year-old Werdum has had a career filled with the greatest achievements. He has remained the Heavyweight champion of the UFC twice. Therefore, ending his lustrous career on a note as high as his victory over Gustafsson does not seem like a bad idea.

However, as he said, Ali Abdelaziz always has a plan if the fighter is willing. The CEO of Dominance MMA is known as the go-to guy to get work done.
Hence, Werdum can very well opt to fight on for as long as his body allows. He still remains unmatchable on the ground, as we saw in his fight with Gustafsson. His expertise of BJJ can assist him to go a long way forward.
Moreover, the UFC is not the only promotion wherein Werdum can choose to fight. He can go on to Bellator, or even the Asian MMA promotion, ONE Championship.
