

The 2022 Mr. Olympia competition saw a major upset as Big Ramy finished fifth. While most fans expected their favorite to lift his third Mr. Olympia title, Big Ramy instead had a disappointing finish that sent shockwaves through the arena. Amidst the rising fan allegations about the competition being rigged, it led to IFBB head judge Steve Weinberger discussing his judgment about Big Ramy’s performance. He explained how his conditioning worsened when compared to 2020 and 2021.

“It was very disappointing,” said Weinberger as he shared his thoughts about the result. He talked about Ramy’s legs and back not being up to the mark while Hadi Choopan took home this year’s Mr. Olympia title.

Steve Weinberger discussed in an interview, “His legs were not what they should have been. His back wasn’t what it should have been. He continued, “His condition was off. His body parts were off. Honestly, it did not look like the Ramy of 2020, more of the Ramy from 2021 just in even worse condition. He came down even worse.”

Weinberger feels Big Ramy’s 2020 Mr. Olympia and New York Pro shapes to be his career-best performances to date. After his defeat, Ramy came and explained his plans to get back for the next competition in an interview, “I’m really need to have a great plan to be back again to the show. That’s what in my head all the time right now. I need to make a great plan for next year to get my title again.”

After Hadi Choopan, Derek Lunsford finished second, while Nicholas Walker took the third prize. 2019 Mr. Olympia Brandon Curry finished fourth, as the fifth place went to Big Ramy. All in all, it turned out to be a disappointing ending for the Egyptian king after he aimed to win his third bodybuilding title.

Although he has a chest size of 54 inches, 24-inch arms, and a waist size of 36 inches, Steve explained how Big Ramy’s condition was subpar to that of normal expectations. Compared to Hadi Choopan, he fell below the required standard as Steve discussed the reasons why he edged his competitor.

“He looked amazing. There was no weakness in his physique,” said Steve. He continued in awe of Hadi’s body on stage, “Oh, my god, this guy is ready today… At first glance, I thought wow.” It became a sensational victory for the Iranian bodybuilder who claimed home his first Mr. Olympia title. As for Ramy, he prepares himself to get back into the best shape and take home the victory.
