The FIS World Cup trophy for this year went to Mikaela Shiffrin. After having a disappointing Beijing Winter Olympics 2022, she bounced back in grand style. With her closest rival Petra Vlhova challenging her to the end, Shiffrin got two podium finishes to claim the Crystal Globe trophy.

Hence, it became a sensational victory for her. Moreover, she posted a video of the beautiful trophy being transported to her home. In a recent video, Shiffrin showed the process of bringing the huge trophy back home.

The Crystal Glove trophy is one of the most beautiful trophies in the world. It involved bubble wrapping the trophy carefully as Shiffrin placed it in her home.

Mikaela Shiffrin brings home the prestigious trophy

The video starts with Shiffrin traveling back home from Europe as she lands at the airport. She is seen taking her bag from the luggage compartment in which the trophy is placed. From there, she travels to her home and finally places her trophy amongst her other medals.

The previous three crystal globe trophies are visible in the video as she placed them carefully in her trophy cabinet. With this globe, she ties Lindsey Vonn for the second-most World Cup titles won in Alpine skiing. She even talked about how hard it was to transport the trophy.

“The big ones are hard to transport. It doesn’t count as carry-on luggage, but you definitely don’t want to check it. It gets a little complicated. But that’s okay,” said Shiffrin.

The 20-pound trophy is one of the most prestigious trophies in the world of skiing. Manufactured by JOSKA Kristall, a German glassblowing specialist, the World Cup winners receive the globe for their performances. The FIS awards around 64 trophies to the skiers who take part in various competitions. The first-ever trophy given dates back to 1989 by the FIS.

The journey of the Crystal Globe

Operations manager Alouis Adam talked about the process of making these trophies. Significantly, winter sports have the crystal globe trophy. He talked about the various steps in making the trophy.

“Every season we have 33 of the small cups (for the winners of individual events), 17 of the big cups (for the overall winners), 17 for the nations cups and 177 medals of glass. I think of the last 25 years we have made over 2,000 different small and big cups,” said Adam.

They maneuvered the trophies to perfection by the glassblowers. To sum up, it is a tedious process. As for Shiffrin, she has four of those at her home.
