Olympic gold medalist Michael Johnson recently gave his unfiltered opinion to a controversial tweet comparing Britton Wilson to Allyson Felix.  Wilson is known for her exceptional performances in 400m races and recently amazed fans with her performance in the SEC Outdoor Championships.  On the other hand, Allyson Felix has thrilled fans with her performances in 400m races and has won 16 World Championship medals.  Responding to this tweet by World Athletics on Twitter, Johnson indicated that the comparison shouldn’t be viewed in a negative light.

The athletics champion also gave his honest perspective that the comment posted by World Athletics shouldn’t be viewed as a hate comment against Allyson Felix. Johnson further implied that he and Usain Bolt had also faced such comparisons. So what was the World Athletic comment that triggered Johnson to react?

Updating track fans that Britton had created a record by finishing her 400m race in 49.13 seconds in the SEC outdoor championships, World Athletics complimented her. The caption of this Twitter post read, “Wilson has run sub 50 in her three outdoor races this year and at the age of 22 she is already faster than @allysonfelix.” This post led to criticism from fans who regarded it as a hate post and said that there was no need to mention Felix. Fans also defended Felix who had won 11 gold medals in the Olympics for her performance in track events.

Responding to fans’ harsh comments on this post, Johnson reacted, “I’m surprised by the criticism of this tweet. Allyson’s greatness makes her a standard by which others are now judged. It’s a compliment.”
