“100M Is the National Sport of Jamaica”: Amidst Sha’Carri Richardson’s Win, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s Stats Leaves US Legend Amazed

Sha’Carri Richardson recently amazed fans with her spectacular victory in the women’s 100m at Diamond League in Doha. Defeating the Jamaican competitor Shericka Jackson, the athletics champion completed the race in a mere 10.76 seconds. Despite this victory, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was surprisingly the talk of the town, though she didn’t participate in the Diamond League. Olympic gold medalist Michael Johnson recently shared intriguing stats about Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce on his Twitter handle.

Johnson posted interesting insights about Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s lightning speed in races. With a personal best of 10.60 seconds in the 100m category, Fraser-Pryce’s phenomenal prowess was noticed by the Olympics champion. Reacting to the stats posted by Kadeem Barrett, Johnson gave Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce and other Jamaican athletes a heartwarming compliment. So what stats was Michael Johnson referring to?

The retired American sprinter reshared Kadeem Barrett’s list of “most sub 11 seconds by a woman in history.”  Four Jamaican athletes, Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce, Merlene Ottey, Elaine Thompson-Harah and Veronica Campbell-Brown were at the top of this list. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce occupied the first position in this list, completing races under 11 seconds 78 times. This achievement of Fraser-Pryce to surpass American and other Jamaican athletes left fans and Johnson amazed.

On the other hand, Ottey has finished races under 11 seconds 68 times. Thompson-Herah has accomplished this feat 68 times and Campbell-Brown 49 times. Reacting to these amazing stats, Johnson commented, “Good lord! The 100m is the national SPORT of Jamaica.”  This is not the only time Johnson has commented on sprinters. Earlier, Johnson also made an interesting comment on Sha’Carri Richardson’s victory at the diamond league in Doha.

Michael Johnson’s  unfiltered opinion on Sha’Carri Richardson

In another recent Twitter post, the sports legend commented, “SCR not a great start and still impressive!” Calling Richardson a “one of a kind talent”, Johnson also pointed out Richardson’s weakness.

Johnson expressed, “Trouble putting it together where it counts most though. Didn’t make US team ’19 & ’22.”  Further, he indicated how it would be great to see Richardson compete in the 100m at the World Athletics Championship in Budapest.
