The USA Basketball has officially announced that the men’s and women’s 2023 USA 3×3 Pan American Teams are set to participate in the 2023 Pan American Games in Chile. This announcement is pending approval from the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee. But the anticipation rose to its peak level amongst the fans and participants themselves.

The XIX Pan American Games are scheduled to commence on October 20, 2023. The 3×3 basketball competition runs from October 21 to October 24 at Estadio Español in Las Condes, Chile. The 2023 USA 3×3 Women’s Pan American Team comprises Cierra Burdick, Blake Dietrick, Lexie Hull, and Azurá Stevens. The team will be led by Jennifer Rizzotti, who brings valuable coaching experience from both USA Basketball’s 5-on-5 and 3×3 programs. With the 2023 Pan American Games around the corner, the teams are striving hard to leave an unforgettable mark in the history of the games.

USA Women’s 3×3 hoops

Cierra Burdick, a two-time gold medalist at the FIBA 3×3 World Cup (in 2023 and 2014), has been actively involved in 3×3 basketball for several years. Her first USA 3×3 experience dates back to 2009. Blake Dietrick has been representing the U.S. at various 3×3 events since 2021, including participation in the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series. Recently, she competed alongside Burdick in the 2023 FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series Final, where they secured the gold. They also won gold at the 2021 FIBA 3×3 AmeriCup. In a recent post made by usab3x3, a message of prep from the women’s team gained all the attention. “We. Are. So. Back‼️ The Women’s Pan American Games Team has tipped off camp in ATL!” the post read.

Meanwhile, players like Lexie Hull, who achieved a bronze medal at the 2022 FIBA 3×3 AmeriCup and a silver at the 2022 FIBA 3×3 U23 World Cup, is also all geared up. Azurá Stevens will be making her debut in USA Basketball’s 3×3 program. She had previously represented the U.S. in the 2015 FIBA U19 Women’s World Championship in 5-on-5 basketball, winning gold.

The basketball competitions at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, will occur at two venues, Multisport Complex 1 for 5×5 basketball and South Sports Centre for 3×3 basketball. Both of these venues are located in the National Stadium Park cluster.

The USA basketball 3×3 Pan Am squad

In this year’s Pan American Games, there will be eight men’s and eight women’s teams participating in the 5×5 tournaments, and 12 teams in each of the 3×3 tournaments, doubling the size of the fields compared to 2019. The USA women’s team has been placed in Group A and is set to face the Dominican Republic on October 21, followed by a match against Mexico on October 22. If they advance, the quarterfinals will take place on the same day, with the semifinals and gold medal game scheduled for October 23.

In 2019, during the debut of 3×3 basketball at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, the USA teams clinched gold in both the men’s and women’s competitions. As a result, the USA enters the 2023 Pan American Games as the defending champions, aiming to secure gold once again.
