But wonder no more, because the 80-year-old recently shared the disciplined workout regimen that helped him maintain his ripped physique in the off-season stretch.

Zane has always been a proponent of working out with medium and heavy weights, rather than choosing only heavy weightlifting prompts. Now, at 80, Zane still continues to pursue the workout routine that he used to perform in his prime days. Interestingly, he discloses the methodologies that he used to maximize his workout efficiency and which helped him clinch the Sandow trophy three times.

Frank Zane reveals the secret to maximizing training efficacy

Recently, the Chemist appeared in an interview with Escape Fitness, where he profoundly talked about his off-season training routine. While breaking down several aspects of his workout prompts, he revealed his approach to achieving paramount results. Nonetheless, the 3x Mr. Olympia believes that fitness fanatics usually go for lifting weights without acknowledging the efficiency that comes with stretching within regular intervals. “I always did stretch between sets. I don’t think that many people do that”.

Explaining the sole reason behind performing stretching between the sets, the 80-year-old conceded, “When you’re are doing a set you’re focused on contracting the muscle but when you’re stretching, you’re stretching the muscle. So, it sort of gives it a completion and it keeps blood in the muscle too”.

The 3x Mr. Olympia further mentioned his off-season training drill and asserted, “My training was sort of paced like that I’d say during those late spring months I was training more with heavier weights with longer rest periods, and then the late summer early autumn I’d be training quite faster with less rest between sets”. While discussing various alcoves of his beloved arena of bodybuilding, the 80-year-old shared his perspective on achieving a perfect physique. “I would say the perfect physique is one that has really great proportions where everything matches, and no one thing stands out, it all blends together”. In fact, the bodybuilder also underlined the fact that witnessing a proportionate stature is now a rare sight in the fitness industry.

He then revealed the training prompts that he instilled in his workout to maintain his aesthetic persona. The Chemist anchored his focus on the abs, back, and calves workouts. “I worked up to 1000 reps a day, and my abs got real deep. Then my back, I did a lot of back work to bring out a lot of definition in the back”. The bodybuilding virtuoso indeed has a treasure trove of counsel regarding working out with utmost efficiency. Whether it is achieving proportions or building deltoids, as per the 80-year-old, it is important to acknowledge the right way of pursuing a training regime.
