Arnold Schwarzenegger served as the governor of California from 2003 to 2011. However, Schwarzenegger was extremely popular all over the world well before that. With his legendary physique and ruthless action scenes in his exceptional movies, Arnold received respect worldwide. In 1983, he became a US citizen and in 1986, he married Maria Shriver.

Maria Shriver merged Arnold with the Kennedy family, who had a huge political influence in the US. Shriver and Schwarzenegger had a 25-year-long marriage, but they separated in 2011. Moreover, they have four children together. In 1996, Schwarzenegger revealed the relationship triangle between him, his cigar, and his wife.

Arnold Schwarzenegger had specific areas at home to smoke his cigar

Arnold Schwarzenegger and cigar share one of the strongest relationships ever. Even today, he hasn’t stopped smoking them, even after undergoing multiple heart surgeries. On the other hand, when they were married, Shriver didn’t like to be surrounded by smoke in her house. Arnold had disclosed an incident from 1996 when they bought a new house at Sun Valley.

Arnold revealed Maria’s words. She said, “You’re certainly not going to smoke cigars up here, are you–not in all this wonderful, fresh, clean air?” To which Arnold replied, “When we entertained, I’d certainly offer cigars after dinner. No way I’m not going to do that.”

Arnold continued, “But if I’m alone, I’ll go outside and smoke in the Jacuzzi. Same thing at home. If we have guests, I’m going to pass cigars. But if I’m alone, I’ll smoke in the Jacuzzi or while I’m playing pool. I won’t smoke upstairs, near the kids’ bedroom. Besides, I don’t want to stink up my clothes or the bedroom.”

The couple’s divorce got finalized in 2021

Maria Shriver decided to separate from the former California governor in 2011. 

Interestingly, the divorce was filed in 2011 and took 10 years to finalize. In December 2021, a Los Angeles judge signed the petition and finalized the couple’s divorce after a long duration of 10 years.

Even though they separated in the end, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver had a good run of 25 years of togetherness. Currently, both of them are indulged in their professional lives.
