90s bodybuilding beast discloses his secret to surprise his opponents

Dorian Yates is one of the raw bodybuilders who took the bodybuilding world by storm as he first competed against Lee Haney. Although he didn’t win in 1991, Mr. Olympia left a mark for the next one. During his magnificent Mr. Olympia career, he grew enormously, just like his victories. Despite his massive physique, Yates had some clever tricks under his belt. As Yates shared a nostalgic picture in his tracksuit from the old days, he also disclosed his intentions behind wearing it and a lot more about it.

In the picture, he is seen doing lunges wearing a blue tracksuit which he called the “Tardis tracksuit”. As he introduced his tracksuit in the caption, he tells about the origin of the name. The Shadow wrote, “I actually named this particular tracksuit, The Tardis… the police telephone box from the popular British TV sci-fi series, Dr. Who.” But it had something more just than a name.

After he introduced his tracksuit, he revealed what was so unusual about it. Yates wrote, “For those that don’t know, The Tardis is dimensionally transcendental, meaning it’s bigger on the inside than the outside.” Other than this, the interesting thing was how he tricked his opponents and other people with that tracksuit.

The Tardis made him look smaller than he used to be, which is what he loved about it. This also reiterates what Frank Zane said about not disclosing how you look before show time. Yates kept the element of surprise with him. As Yates confessed, “So of course, I wore it to deliberately give an image of a ‘smaller’ physique to confuse my rivals and people would comment, asking each other why I wasn’t bigger, as they were expecting me to be… little did everyone know, I’d probably be a career heaviest!”

He loved to trick his opponents and unveil his mammoth physique at the last minute. While writing the caption, Yates recalled what he used to do. Yates wrote, “I always left my tracksuit on until the very last minute as I would feel every eye glancing at me from my competitors. When it eventually was time for The Tardis to come off, my gargantuan physique was unveiled for all to see. My competitors have often said that it felt like there was a force field around me that roared victory… I almost felt unbeatable.”
