Get Bigger Calves With 4x Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler’s Golden Routine

Jay Cutler is one of the biggest names in the bodybuilding world. He is known for his four Mr. Olympia and three Arnold Classic titles. But the legend is also known for giving neck-to-neck competition to one of the biggest bodybuilders, Ronnie Coleman, throughout his peak years and eventually beating him in 2006. However, to beat Coleman, Cutler learned a lot about bodybuilding. Now, years later, he has been giving it all out to the young generation of bodybuilders and fitness enthusiasts. 

Recently, Cutler has been sharing diet and fitness tips in his newsletter and on social media. Similarly, in his recent Instagram post, he shared a valuable lesson for his followers. Cutler disclosed his top three movements to train calves and to get them bigger. In this article, let us find out about those exercises and what he advised.

Jay Cutler’s mantra for bigger calves

Cutler has been sharing some of his golden tips with his fans for better workout results lately, be it through his newsletter or social media accounts. And after making multiple muscle-developing videos about arms, back, and chest workouts, Cutler has now opened up on the best exercises for bigger calves in his latest Instagram video. “So we are gonna talk about calf training. What I try to focus on is at least two to three movements,” Cutler said. He continued, “definitely the standing calf machine raise, the seated calf machine raise, and then sometimes the donkey calf if it’s available in the gym.”

Furthermore, while pointing towards his massive calves, Cutler continued his lesson. He said, “But everyone always wants to know how you have the developed calf muscle. Now, I focus on 12 repetitions and I do at least three working sets per exercise. Always, always training calves on chest day which is once every 5 to 6 days in my training routine.”

After hearing the input from the former Mr. Olympia, the bodybuilding fans reacted to the teachings given by him. Let us look at a few of the comments from the fans.

Looking into the comments section, one can easily conclude that calves are certainly the muscles that many people struggle to work on. The fans looked in doubt and were a little confused by the advice of Cutler. However, they found the answers among themselves, as some of them shared their knowledge in the comments section to clear their doubts. Let us have a look at it.

A fan revealed the sheer difficulty in training calves and wrote, “Hardest muscle to work for me have to at least do calf’s 3-4x a week just to make them grow” However, one of the fans came up with advice by himself. He wrote, “I am an over thinker, I recommend these routines, however I also recommend doing the “in’s and out’s for better development and definition.” 

On the other hand, a few fans had some doubts about the video by Cutler, as they asked,

“Calves with chest. Interesting”

“Any reason to why with chest,”

“Why on chest day??”

However, one of the fans answered their doubt, he commented, “your calves aren’t tired or spent on a chest day. That way you can load maximum weight because they’re fresh”
