The 75-year-old bodybuilding legend, Arnold Schwarzenegger, had one of the best physiques in the sport. Schwarzenegger has been the role model of a standard physique for any fitness freak all around the world. Interestingly, it hasn’t changed even when he is a quarter away from being a 100-year-old man.

Initially, Arnold used to be the trendsetter for young people. Whereas now, he is the one who shows the bright path to the elderly people. In 2021, Arnold opened up on why people face intense problems with their health after passing a certain age. He revealed his view through his newsletter while answering a fan’s question.

Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed the reason why the problem exists

Arnold Schwarzenegger is a veteran and someone with an abundance of knowledge on how fitness works. This is the reason he is extremely fit at 75. Schwarzenegger knows what his body needs and what his body can tolerate. But Schwarzenegger believes this is where most Americans get carried away while trying to stay young.

When a fan asked Arnold, “How getting older has affected him, both physically but also mentally?” Arnold replied, “Physically, you just have to accept reality and do the best you can. It is always difficult to accept that you aren’t where you once were… More than 2,000,000 Americans over 65 suffer from depression.”

Arnold continued, “I think a lot of that comes from hormonal changes that cause us to lose muscle over time. The global anti-aging market is worth 58 billion dollars. That is a lot of people trying to hold on to their youth.”

How can one remain protected from this mind trap?

According to Arnold, the first step is to know your body and mind and what’s capacity of it. You have to know your body and accept reality to remain the best version of yourself. Another point that Arnold discussed was that one should adapt according to age. It is not possible to lift the same weight at 20 and 70 years of age. That’s what Arnold does. He adapts accordingly.

He also revealed, “This is why I’ve moved away from free weights and stick to the workout machines.” The machines let the fluency of the workout and decrease the risk of injuries that free weights might cause.
