“Had 12 Stitches in My Back”: Arnold Schwarzenegger Was Dragged Down the Rock by a Wild Animal During the Shoot of Conan the Barbarian

Bodybuilding legend Arnold Schwarzenegger turned to movies in parallel to pursuing bodybuilding. However, his primary focus adhered to bodybuilding. But Arnold kept acting in action movies at regular intervals since his debut. Although many people told Arnold that he won’t be successful because of his language barrier and many other reasons, he kept believing in himself.

He didn’t get immense success until the 80s. However, in the 80s, with movies like Conan and The Terminator, he made an everlasting impact on the audience and critics. And became an action hero to look out for. A few years ago, while talking about his movies, Arnold revealed a painful incident he suffered on the sets of Conan The Barbarian.

Arnold Schwarzenegger had a lot of injuries during that shoot

Before the release of Conan The Barbarian, Arnold had completed 12 years in the industry but still hadn’t carved out an identity. However, Arnold was already a big name as he molded the sport of bodybuilding and became a legend. But in movies, that big turnover was yet to come. Conan was the beginning of that. It was a tough role and Arnold was the perfect guy for it.

While talking about it in an interview with GQ, three years ago. Arnold said“There were a lot of injuries at that time. I remember the first day I shot, I had to get stitched up. I had 12 stitches in my back because some wolf pulled me down from the rock and I fell with me back on rocks.”

Arnie continued, “It was all the way from the beginning that I had really wild and the great experience. And John Milius, the director, loved it. He said this is exactly what it’s all about. This is a tough movie to shoot, this is a Conan era, and this is exactly the way we wanted.” 

Tough times forge tough people

Conan The Barbarian and its sequel Conan The Destroyer, both movies were tough to shoot as they were based on ancient eras. But Arnold loved to take on challenges, and that’s what exactly he did. After that movie, Arnold never had to look back. He became one of the best action heroes of that time and to this day; he is the paragon.

In 1984, after the release of Conan the Barbarian, they released another Arnold movie called ‘The Terminator’ which made him a global star. After that, movies like Commando, Twins, Predator, Total Recall, and sequels of The Terminator established him as a quintessential action hero. Arnold’s acceleration was like a Ferrari, which made him a global megastar.
