“I Feel Better Than When I Was in My Twenties”: 70-Year-Old Bodybuilder Shared Her Inspirational Story of Rising Above Body Dysmorphia, in 2022

Texas bodybuilder Renee Landers decided to challenge the present dynamics of the bodybuilding community by embarking on her journey at 69. After a year of competing, her story is all set to inspire. In fact, right from the very start, she was able to grab an esteemed position in her debut event. However, it was not always smooth sailing for Renee.

Renee suffered from health concerns that pushed her to rethink her fitness regimes. In a 2022 article by Daily Mail, Landers opened up about her transition from a mother with back surgery to an iconic septuagenarian power-lifter. Overcoming the stigma surrounding bikinis and embracing her body as an act of self love, Renee’s story is an inspiring one.

As reported by Daily Mail, the 70-year-old hails from Houston and underwent an intense lower lumbar fusion surgery in 2010, after her son, Garrett was born. Apparently, Landers was a diligent runner during her early days. However, post pregnancy, she suffered from body dysmorphia. Soon realizing her state, she hired a personal trainer which proved to be a path-breaking effort for her life. “This is the fittest I have ever been and I look and feel better than I did when I was in my twenties,” she said.

Further, participating in athletic events, she was hesitant about making stage appearances in bikinis. “I was terrified to put on a skimpy and sparkly bikini, as I was nearly 70 and at least 20 years older than the next oldest person there. But now I know that 70 and sexy can go together, as I’m living proof,” the 5-feet athlete revealed. Remarkably, she finished off as the sixth-best competitor in her foremost event which boosted her confidence.

Since then, Landers has competed in numerous contests in Texas and California, against women 2x younger than her. At 71, she has no intentions of backing down. “I am definitely not slowing down. This is my life and this is how I want to live,” she confessed. Moreover, the athlete’s social media is proof of her wonderful journey toward achieving a ripped physique.

Earlier this year, the grandmother once teased a glimpse of her upper body drills along with an insightful caption. “upper body workout today! Because of my fusion, my workouts may not really look like everyone else’s… Your trainer will be guiding you,” it read. 

Her impressive hourglass proportions even at 70 encourage her fans to prioritize a healthy way of life. Besides that, she receives significant attention from younger men which she is aware of, however, she indicates her affinity towards men her age.

Renee Landers now encourages people of all ages group to sweat it out at the gym and take care of their health, claiming it’s never too late. “Live life to the fullest” is her motto in life. Hers is a story that glorifies the value of fitness regardless of age.
