Learning martial arts from a young age, Flex Wheeler is also a bodybuilding champion. Winning the 1985 Mr. Teen America competition, Flex later won the USA Championships in the heavyweight category. His victory march was stopped by Ronnie Coleman, who defeated him in the 1998 Olympia competition. In a podcast in 2020, Flex gave his frank reaction about this defeat and his refusal to go to Coleman’s victory party.

Flex Wheeler’s reaction after losing to bodybuilding legend in Olympia 1998 

On the podcast, Flex Wheeler revealed that he went up to Ronnie Coleman after the defeat and spoke to him. “I love you. Congratulations by the way,” Flex told Coleman sportingly. Further adding, Wheeler said, “I’m not going to be at your victory party tonight.”

The bodybuilding champion also revealed that he hugged Ronnie after losing to him, indicating that there were no hard feelings.

Talking about bodybuilding, he said, “It’s not like a combat fight where I taunted you when you were lying and bleeding.” Later, Flex also told about how bodybuilding was a subjective sport where judges picked the best among them.

The bodybuilding champion also spoke about how he was a completely different person on stage. He also had a negative opinion of bodybuilders who got angry with the winner after losing. Flex mentioned that if any bodybuilder thought that he should have won, he should go to the judges to talk about it.

Wheeler spoke about how he was confident about defeating Ronnie Coleman in the 1999 Olympia. “At the ’99 Olympia, I was 17 pounds heavier, in better shape than ever before, and Ronnie still slammed it with a perfect score.” Despite trying his best, Wheeler still lost to Ronnie Coleman in the 1999 Olympia.
