The last few years have seen a rise in mass shootings in the U.S. Moreover, this year’s Easter weekend itself left the world terrified by the numerous killings across the country. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s ex-wife, Maria Shriver, recently shed light on last Monday’s incident in Louisville that killed five people. She took to her weekly newsletter, Maria Shriver’s Sunday Paper, which focuses on insightful and thought-provoking content, and it illustrated the grave scenario with gripping judgment. Being a mother to two young sons, Christopher and Patrick, she was perturbed by the news.

The journalist empathized with the 25-year-old killer’s mother and felt utterly disheartened by the reality of it. She claimed that even though she has a son of the same age and her house is often filled with similar young men, she might not know their truth on the inside. Here’s what her newsletter entailed.

Maria Shriver elucidates striking insights on the current young generation 

On 10th April, five employees at work were shot dead in a mass shooting by a young co-worker, who his mother claimed was a non-violent person. According to the award-winning newsletter, the 67-year-old author shared that she had heard the mother’s 911 call and felt shattered. “My heart broke listening to her and to the other family members who lost their loved ones on this awful day,” Shriver wrote.

Shriver’s concern encircled her 25-year-old son, Christopher, and his friends, working towards building a good life and bright futures. However, their external demeanor need not necessarily resonate with their internal struggles. The primary subject matter being, mental health issues. Thus, she added, “This latest tragedy made me think about so many of the young men that I know, or perhaps who I think I know.”

They claimed that they were being addressed actively. And yet, he took such a drastic step that his mother couldn’t come to terms with it.

What happened on Easter Monday? 

Per reports, a mass shooting took place at the Old National Bank in Louisville, Kentucky. Over nine people were injured, including LMPD officers, and five were confirmed dead. The killer was identified as Connor Sturgeon, an employee at the bank with no criminal history. He was killed in a shooting encounter with the police.

Therefore, Shirver’s newsletter issues an explanation for the assailant’s actions. She highlighted the growing mental health disorders that are encouraging such dreadful situations, putting at risk their own and others’ lives. She was deeply saddened by the incident and tried to imagine the affected families’ gloom. Likewise, the notable author also penned an emotional note for the school shooting in Nashville.
